Ron graduated from Bucknell University with a B.A. in Chemistry in 1965. From 1965 through 1966 he was a teaching fellow in biochemistry at Georgetown University. He worked in the U.S. Patent Office as a patent examiner from 1966 through 1970 while attending George Washington University Law School on scholarship in the evenings.
From 1970 through 1982 Ron was an institutional securities analyst. Ron began to manage investment portfolios for others in 1975. Ron founded Baron Capital Management, a registered investment advisor, in 1982 and Baron Funds, a mutual fund business, in 1987. Ron was the founding Portfolio Manager of Baron Partners Fund in 1992 and Baron Growth Fund in 1995 and continues to manage both funds.
